Today’s most popular and inexpensive decking material is pressure-treated pine, now readily available arsenic free. With regular water-repellent treatment, it will last 30 + years. Cedar and redwood are naturally rot-resistant; making beautiful decks lasting 20 years or more. Tropical hardwoods (Mahogany, Walnut, etc.) will last around 40 years, but you'll pay more.
New technology gives even more options, with vinyl and plastic-wood composites.
